I've been looking forward to sharing this scarf for a while.. The idea for it came when I was feeling so awfully tired before my surgery. I was too tired to spend much time at the sewing machine and I just can't sit on a couch or in bed doing nothing. So to keep myself busy but still to do something else than fabric flowers as a "portable" craft, I figured something that I could mostly hand stitch would work great. I combined two of my loves:
and textured fabrics.
I picked a piece of light weight white satin, machine hemmed it and marked the grid. Then I hand-sewed honeycomb tucks on the whole length. I added rows of buttons for a pop of color. For a while, I thought I would add a black polkadot cuff on each end. I even pinned the fabrics strips but I didn't like the finish. I went with this fringe trim instead.
I've been working on this scarf off and on since just before the surgery. A couple of minutes or hand stitching here and there, just before going to bed, while watching a movie or keeping an eye on bug when she plays outside. Last week I finally finished sewing the tucks and buttons and I got the fringe trim at JoAnn's on Saturday.
I love final look. The buttons look like jelly beans. With all those colors I think I can wear this scarf with pretty much anything in my wardrobe.
