Pattern testing - The Layla bag

I've been lucky enough that Linda from Craftaholic Anomymous selected me to test patterns for her new Etsy store the Ruffled Begonia

It's such a cute bag. I was first going to use some Amy Butler fabrics then I remembered about this fat quarters set of Moda called Freshly Squeezed that I got a couple of years ago and it just turned perfect for a spring handbag.

I took some liberties with the pattern (longer shoulder strap and loop for a D-ring)
Oh and the pattern is only $6 - To make something this cute definitely worth it
You can purchase the pattern at :

  8. I think it is REALLY cute. You did a great job. I think I would change how the handles are stitched on though. I don't like when bag patterns have you just sew them on at the end on the outside. Hmmmm. Could this be tucked in to hide that?

  9. that is just adorable! I think I would love to make one with faded denim and pretty fabric ruffles!

  29. Love it! In response to the reader who asked about the straps, I just bought the pattern and it actually has you stitch the straps on the inside of the purse. Anyway, I can't wait to get started! Thirty-One sells a bag like this and I have wanted it for so long and now I can make my own!

  32. Well, your post made another sale for Linda. :) Can't wait to make mine!

@Janimal: The pattern actually calls for sewing the strap to the inside of the purse. I think Caroline just did hers this way because she wanted to add the loop for a D ring.

  33. In response to the controversy about the strap: The pattern called for the strap to be sew inside the bag but wanted to be able to hang my work ID badge outside so it made sense for me to sew it outside so I could make a loop for a D-ring.
