Trashformation - Mirror, mirror on the wall

Here it is ... my big upcycling project for Stashbusting September

Enjoy the "before" picture

A couple of years back, when we bought our house, a work colleague needed a place to stay for a while.  My colleague ended up staying in our walkout basement for a while since we didn't need the space at the time and left a few things behind when moving out. Including this mirror that just stayed stashed in my basement tucked in a closet. Let's face it, it needed a LOT of TLC and with all the big projects going on around the house, the mirror was way down the to-do list.

Fast forward to this year. A number of projects (all the large ones) have been stricken from the list. I have a craft studio in my basement (yep the same basement).

Beautification started with a thorough scrubbing and a little trimming. See that scroll detail missing on the left. Bye bye scroll on the right.

Then came sanding (not my favorite part), priming and painting. I'm getting better at the spray paint thing. It's all about patience. Two thin coats work better than a thick one.

Then time for some additional decorations.
Remember those fabric butterflies?

Wait wait, not so fast. First I grabbed my paintbrushes and a bit of acrylic paints, added a big flower, some grass, leaves and vines. Another sprinkle of spray paint. Silver this time. Barely a dusting

Then I dug up my glue gun and

...
Here is the perch for my butterflies

One final before and after :

  10. The previous owner can grovel and beg, it's mine now :). Well it's my daughter's. It was fun to paint and decorate even though it took largely longer than my average project. I kept getting more ideas and it was nice to get my brushes out of storage. Now I can't wait to finish setting up her meadows bedroom.

Thank you all for your sweet comments!!
